On June 6, 1944, men from all over the world landed on these beaches to participate in the liberation of Europe.
We do not travel through Normandy without taking the time to stop at these places of memory. The beaches are about an hour from Le Clos du Haut and really deserve an entire day.
Around June 6, the commemoration ceremonies attract many visitors from around the world. If you are staying at this time, consider booking and arranging your travel in advance.

Omaha Beach is probably the most important place on the D-Day beach. Today, the beach seems immense and peaceful, making it difficult to imagine what happened on June 6, 1944. The American cemetery of Colleville-sur-Mer, just above the beach, is a particularly moving place.
Our tip. Take the time to walk on the beach and climb to the cemetery. Do not miss the memorial and gazebo that offers views of the entire beach.

One of the most impressive sites in the Landing. The cliffs climbed by the American Rangers are still there, as are the German bunkers and the huge craters left by the bombings.
Our tip. Free access site. Allow an hour on site minimum - bunkers are accessible and craters give a very concrete idea of the intensity of the bombings.

The remains of the artificial harbour built after the Disembarkation are still visible in the sea facing Arromanches. This temporary port allowed to transport men, vehicles and equipment within the days following 6 June.
Our tip. The 360 d'Arromanches, a circular cinema with archival images of the Disembarkation, is a very well made experience, especially for children.

British and Canadian beaches. From Ouistreham to Arromanches, British and Canadian beaches each have their own history and memorials. The Juno Beach Centre, dedicated to Canadian troops, is particularly well designed and accessible to families.

Saint-Mother Church became famous all over the world because of the American parachutist John Steele who remained hanging at the church bell tower on the night of the Disembarkation. The Airborne Museum traces the history of American paratroopers with numerous objects, aircraft and reconstructions.
Our tip. To combine with Utah Beach for a day in the American sector.

More wild and open than the other landing beaches, Utah Beach has a very different atmosphere. The museum is modern, very well designed and allows to better understand the strategic role of this part of the American landing.
